1st word

The little things that unite us are love, respect and joy. The willingness to work as a team will make us move on with life the much we can. I met a guy who told me about how he walked from Eldoret to Nairobi to demonstrate the art of peace. We have the opportunity to build impact; the time and platform are now and here. The study has helped me to step up and want to do more where I can. I simply thank God I'm alive to demonstrate the the best things human beings could ever have-peace, love and unity. May He Bless Kenya. I love my country. I love you all. Peace.

Trace me in this photo and I'll give you lolly pop :)))))))

YOUTH SPEAK PEACE-MOI

Build a Community marked by unity

What is AIESEC?
Present in over 110 countries and territories and with over 60,000 members, AIESEC is the world's largest student-run organization. Focused on providing a platform for youth leadership development, AIESEC offers young people the opportunity to be global citizens, change agents, an experience of a life time impacting one with skills that matter today.
 YOUTH SPEAK PEACE
Project Description
Goal: To Sensitize university and college students on peace and the importance of their involvement in the path of national cohesion and integration in Kenya.

Project Summary
The mandate of AIESEC is peace and fulfillment for human-kind potential. We do this through using innovative approaches in engaging and developing today’s youth. By offering opportunities to build extensive international personal networks and explore leadership opportunities, we provide a platform for young people to discover direction and ambition for their futures. We would like to sensitize the youth on peace programmes, the adverse effects of instability on community coherence and to help them make healthy decisions for themselves and their families.

Activities:
v Hold debates on political and civic education, peace and the effects of ethnic conflicts in three main campuses of colleges and Universities in Eldoret namely; Moi University Main Campus, Mount Kenya University-Eldoret Campus and Eldoret Polytechnic.

v Use of radio and social media to spread the word, and have the youth speaking about peace and being patriotic.(YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Linked-In.)

Objective 2: National identity: Youth who give greater priority to their national identity than their group identity – i.e. feel they are a Kenyan first, before their tribal allegiance – are less likely to engage in or approve of political violence.
Activities:
v Develop and distribute a learning resource against violence.

Objective 3: To be a national youth voice, first choice partner and leave an impact on society.

Activities:
v Hold talks on radio, regarding general issues affecting the youth.
v Participate in the Cultural village, where the different tribes will show case their culture from attires to food and will be open to the public.
The expected results of this project are:
v More youth will know more about how conflicts destroy a nation socially, politically, economically, physically and mentally. This will help prevent the same occurrence after the next general elections in 2013.
v The youth will have a better understanding or a first-hand experience of what life is like for people affected by the election violence in the country.

The project results will be disseminated through a written evaluation which will be given to all stakeholders in the project.
Project Guide

Phase 1: Research

A research will be conducted in the hot spots that were hard hit by the post-election violence with an aim of establishing the causes
Of post-election violence, the role that the youth played in the post-election violence, what motivated them to participate in such activity, how these motivations can be averted and the role of the youth in enhancing unity in their respective communities. The Research will be conducted between 25th of September and 19th October of 2012
The findings of the research will be shared to all stakeholders and the partners as part of their peace initiatives
The findings will also be presented during The Peace Walk and Talk which will be the ultimate Peace Campaign that will happen late January or early February of 2013.
Phase 1.5: Digital campaign
The digital campaign is an effort to get people involved and talking about the project. Participants are to make videos and/ or take photos of them enjoying our resources and with the tagline “I am Kenyan Youth and I speak Peace”. The video/ photo with the most likes will win a prize.
Phase 2: Live Debates and Discussions

Between October 2012 and January 2013, there will be three live debates that will take place in Moi University Main Campus, Mount Kenya University Eldoret Campus and Eldoret Polytechnic with similar objectives as those in the research. This will enhance the participation of the youth in the efforts to give the youth a chance be part of the solution to their own challenges.

We anticipate partnering with the leading National Media Houses for coverage of these debates so as to make it a national event that aims at passing the message to the entire nation on the Youths’ initiative to preach peace. These will take place on dates 2nd, 9th and 16th of November in the respective venues.

Phase 3: The Peace Walk and Talk
As the climax of the whole Youth Speak Peace Initiative, there will be a peace walk and talk the will take place towards the end of January or the beginning of February 2013. This will be a public event that will involve all the members of the public. It will have four starting points towards one central place where there will be presentations on the research findings and the outcome of the debates and discussions that will have taken place before then. There will also be speeches from invited guests and speakers on peace.

Partners’ Gala
Afterwards, as the extension of the ultimate Peace Walk and Talk, there will be the partners’ gala to be held in the evening in one of the Hotels in Eldoret where all partners will have an opportunity to converge, make speeches on their contribution towards achieving a peaceful environment in Kenya and recommend ways through which the youth in Kenya can be involved in peace-building activities that will lead to a better Kenya.
